Edit mail after it's been sent

How many times have you sent an e-mail, only to regret it a minute (or an hour/day/week/year) later? In the heat of the moment, you said something that you knew would come back to haunt you later. With conventional (static content) e-mail, once it’s sent, it’s out of your control. The only thing you can do about it is apologize.

E-mail was invented in 1965. E-mail sent in the early 1970s operated a lot like it does today; it hasn’t really changed much until now.

Welcome to the 21st century

With our revolutionary, patented technology, you can now edit the content of your e-mail after you send it. Even if the recipient has seen the mail already: one moment it reads one way; the next, it’s totally different. The content of any mail you send is entirely in your control, at all times. Even if the recipient has deleted his copy of the message, you are able to edit it. We call this remarkable technology dynamic mail content and it's about to change your life.

Using dynamic mail content is as easy as 1-2-3:

Composing

Composing an e-mail message that uses dynamic mail content is no different from composing one containing static content: you open the Compose window of your mail program, write your message and send it off. Depending on whether you have chosen dynamic mail content as your default content type, you may need to select or deselect a checkbox at the time you send the message. But that's it; sending dynamic mail content mail is no more complicated than that.

Reading

Reading dynamic mail content is no different from reading static content: you just select the message and read it. Users whose mail programs are not enabled for dynamic mail content see a canned message, informing them that their mail program is not able to read the real message and what they need to do to remedy the problem.

Editing

To change a message after you send it, you simply select a copy of it, either from your Sent Mail folder or elsewhere. The extension will detect that you're the sender of the message and will enable you to write directly in the viewing window. You make the changes you want, press the Update Content button on your mail program and your mail has been changed. Any recipient who reads the message afterward will see your changes.

Here's how dynamic mail content works:

  1. When you send a dynamic mail content e-mail, the extension (the software that enables dynamic mail content) splits the mail into two parts: the mail header, which contains the source and destination e-mail addresses, among other things, and the message body, which is the part you composed (if your e-mail includes attachments, these are split off as well and handled similarly, but for the sake of simplicity we won't discuss attachment processing here).
  2. Next, the extension sends the message body (the content) to a content server, which stores it in its database and returns to the extension a pointer to the stored message content. This pointer will be later used by the recipient's mail program to read the message.
  3. The extension then attaches the pointer to the mail header and sends the header. plus a canned message through the mail network, where it arrives at the recipient's mailbox. Note that the canned message is solely for the benefit of recipients whose mail programs are not able to process dynamic mail content.
  4. The recipient selects the message, his mail program retrieves the pointer contained in the mail header and uses it to request the content from the content server.
  5. The content server uses the pointer to retrieve the message content and sends it to the recipient's mail program, which displays it to the user.

Editing dynamic mail content uses the same scheme: the sender edits his message and the edited content, along with some additional information, is sent to the content server, which updates the message in its database.
